In November my parents came to visit. In need of some rest and relaxation we decided to take them to Little Cayman for a weekend because sometimes Grand Cayman can be just a bit too big :) Little Cayman really is paradise. With only 150 or so permanent inhabitants, it’s still relatively unspoiled and life plods along at it’s own, so-laid-back-its-horrizontal pace. A tiny, lush green island wrapped in white sandy beaches spilling into clear, turquoise blue seas it is easy on the eye and phenomenal for the mind and soul. We spent our days swimming, kayaking, reading, chatting, kitesurfing, playing games and mainly enjoying each others company and the true serenity of our surroundings.
The weekend wasn’t without it’s own dose of entertainment though as we happened to be there over the same weekend as Little Cayman’s Pirates Week celebration! On the day of the parade the entire population of the island piles onto floats and trailers to sing and dance their way down the only main road. Don’t expect a concrete start time, or to be able to buy a drink whilst it’s actually going (the server will be part of the show) but if you’re ever lucky enough to be there for the islands’ National Festival – don’t miss it!
We stayed at the Conch Club which I would highly recommend for families or small groups - the condo's are clean, comfortable and spacious with large patios and 2 pools right outside your door. The pool deck leads straight onto a gorgeous section of beach which comes complete with cabanas, hammocks, a dock and kayaks! If you need anything from "town" you can jump on one of the bikes parked up outside your front door.
Side note: if you're going to Little Cayman in a bigger group, I've also stayed at the Sir Turtle Beach Villa which is right next door to the Conch Club and an absolutely awesome place for a party weekend :) The property is split into two and can either be rented as two separate villas or one massive one - obviously booking out the entire property and having the place to yourself is the most desired option so start recruiting friends now!
We had a magical weekend full of laughter and great memories. And just to make sure we never forget it I made a little video.
