Celebrating the best in Cayman cuisine

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the Table Talk Food Awards - aka the Cayman restaurant Oscars - at the Marriott, sponsored by Best Dressed Chicken and the Jamaican Observer (the awards originated in Jamaica and spread to our little islands 3 years ago). I took the hubby along but left my SLR at home so forgive the iPhone snaps - you get the (literal) picture!

As with any big Gala's on island, the night started with champagne and anticipation.

Before we sat down to hear about the nominees and celebrate the winners. Congrats to my faves at Anchor & Den (you can read about why I love them in my post from another foodie event here) - they walked away with the gong for best Happy Hour and I was convinced they'd bag best brunch too which went to the Ritz. Our friends at Agua and Catch were deservedly awarded a cupboard full of trophies and the ultimate - restaurant of the year.

I was glad when these guys won as there were some dubious nominations - The Tasting Room for best Happy Hour? Are they even open at Happy Hour? As an event still relatively in it's infancy I think they're still working out some kinks but overall I think the best man won in every category and after all the formalities were over it was time to dine and wine at the always on point Marriott Beach House - the same perhaps cannot be said for my bathroom mirror etiquette....

We moved outside to the beautifully decorated Veranda, overlooking Seven Mile Beach, where food stations serving everything from Tapas to Thai had been set up to offer tastings of different dishes.

The Brasserie's pate was a hit as were Anchor & Den's brownies!

We made the most of the opportunity to mingle with friends, sample as much food as possible and enjoy the open bar!

A great time had by all and I can't wait for next year!
